  • First of all, Open and place a target file to use as the source image for the tracing.
  • While you select the source image, perform either of the following:>If you want to trace the image utilizing a tracing preset, click on the Tracing Presets. Furthermore, click on the Options button available in the Control panel, and select a preset.> However, in order to trace the image while utilizing the default tracing options. Either click Live Trace in the Control panel or click Object > Live Trace > Make.
  • Once you select the appropriate tracing option as per your requirement, click on ‘trace’.
  • By the end, if you want then you may adjust the results of tracing.
  • In addition, converting the product to vector paths or a live paint object is also an optional recommendation.

Tracing options of image trace in Photoshop:

Preset:

Select a tracing preset.

Mode:

Also, choose a color mode for the tracing result.

Threshold:

Define value for producing a black and white tracing result in image trace Photoshop. However, you need to prescribe threshold only when the mode is set to black and white.

Palette:

On the other hand, if the mode is set to color or greyscale then you need to select a palette accordingly. Meanwhile, click on automatic so that the illustrator determines colors in the tracing.

Max colors:

While the mode is set to color or greyscale and the panel is set to automatic. Then you get the chance to select a great number of colors.

Output to swatches:

Make a new swatch in the swatches panel for every color in the tracing result.

Blur:

Blurring the original image before producing the final result allows a reduction in small artifacts and smooth jagged edges. Thereby it refines the tracing result.

Resample:

This option is quite significant in speeding up the tracing of larger images. Since it resamples the original image to a particular resolution before yielding the tracing result.

Fills:

Most importantly, fill spaces in the tracing result.

Strokes:

Don’t forget to create strokes in your final product

Maximum stroke-width:

Define the maximum width of features in the original image that requires stroke. Because features larger than the maximum width emerge as outlined areas in the tracing result

Minimum stroke length:

Similarly, prescribe the minimum length of features in the original image that requires stroke. Therefore you can eliminate features that are smaller than the minimum length from the tracing result.

Vector:

You also need to define the way you want to exhibit your tracing result.

Change the display of a tracing image trace in Photoshop:

Basically, the tracing object comprises of two components that are the original source image and the tracing result. Although by default, we can see only tracing result in image trace Photoshop. But you can change the display of both the original image and the tracing result that appropriately meet your requirements.

So, here is how:

  • First of all, select the tracing object.
  • Now do either of the following:>To make changes in the tracing result display, click the Vector View button available in the Control panel. However, you can also choose Object

    >Live Trace, and click on a display option: No Tracing Result, Tracing Result, Outlines, and Outlines With Tracing

    >Similarly, to make changes in the source image display, click on the Raster View button in the Control panel.

    However, you can also select Object

    >Live Trace and click on a display option: No Image, Original Image, Adjusted Image, and Transparent Image.
